the prevailing consensus within the scientific community is that a mere 4 percent of the universe is observable: 23 percent of the universe is now thought to consist of dark matter, and 73 percent of dark energy. Thus, 96 percent of our universe lies beyond the scope of scientific investigation.8 It is true that some argue that the explanatory successes of science imply an underlying ontological materialism.9 Yet this is only one of several ways of interpreting these successes, and there are others
